1946-1951 Primary Education: North Essendon State School, Victoria.
1952-1957 Secondary education: Essendon High School, Victoria. Matriculated to the University of Melbourne, 1957, to read Law and Arts. Awarded full Commonwealth of Australia Government Scholarship.
1958-1963 Undergraduate (full-time) in Faculties of Law and Arts, University of Melbourne.
1962 Qualified Motion Picture Operator’s Certificate, Radio School, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT)
1963 Completed requirements for Bachelor of Arts, Degree with Honours, with First Class Honours, First Place, and Hastie Exhibition in the Honours School of Philosophy. Also satisfied requirements for a Major in each of History and Philosophy of Science, and Political Science, and a Sequence in History. Language, Italian.
1964 Graduated BA (Hons I) and awarded Commonwealth Government Postgraduate Scholarship to the University of Melbourne to support candidature for the degree of Master of Arts (by research and thesis) in Philosophy.
1965 Thesis submitted and MA awarded with First Class Honours. Awarded Commonwealth Travelling scholarship (United Kingdom Award) to read for the postgraduate degree of Bachelor of Philosophy (in Philosophy) at University of Oxford. Matriculated to University College, Oxford.
1965-1967  Candidate for BPhil (a coursework and research degree for future teachers of philosophy) University of Oxford.
1967 Graduated BPhil with Distinction (highest grade available) and First Place. Papers were on Kant, Philosophical Logic, and Metaphysics and Epistemology. Thesis was titled ‘The Notion of Existence’.
1968-1971 Candidate for degree of Doctor of Philosophy, University of Oxford.
1970 Awarded Certificate of Satisfactory Participation in in-service course in university teaching and assessment methods by Centre for Higher Education, University of Melbourne.
1972 Graduated DPhil, Oxford. Thesis titled ‘Reference and Existence’.
1972-1973 Completed remaining requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Laws (ordinary degree) University of Melbourne (as part-time student). First Class Honours and First Place in Jurisprudence, and First Class Honours in Law of Labour Relations.
